1. Start with materials
The choice of material defines the footprint A sustainable design often begins by asking what material is available renewable or recyclable

2. Think about life cycle
Design is not just about the beginning It is also about how the product will age be repaired and eventually end its life

3. Work with less
Sustainability is often about reduction Fewer parts simpler assembly and minimum waste make a design smarter not weaker
4. Respect local context
What works sustainably in one place may not work in another Using local skills resources and production makes the design more grounded

5. Test through making
Building prototypes with sustainable materials teaches what really works It is different from imagining and gives real feedback about strength and usability
